LOCALACCESS AIDS (formerly Candi House) - The local agency we support in connection with serving clients with HIV/AIDS. In 2007, CUMC responded to the challenge to address this issue and undergird the efforts of the Global AIDS ministry under UMCOR. www.accessaids.org.
Agape Christian Children's Community Center, Eastern Shore, VA. ACCCC provides a safe and wholesome pre-school and after school program. It is open weekdays and provides meals and snacks. Located in Horntown, most families rely upon financial assistance. One scholarship is about $3,400 per year. Angel Tree - Christmastime blessing of less fortunate children.
ForKids - Since 1988, ForKids has led the fight to end homeless for families and their children in Hampton Roads. Our comprehensive services and residential programs help families overcome the barriers they face to self-sufficiency, and build a foundation of stability. www.HomesForKids.org.Food Distribution Partnership with St. Paul’s UMC - We share feeding the hungry with a sister congregation in a more economically challenged area within the Norfolk District of the UMC.
Homeless Shelter provides one week of shelter, breakfast and dinner annually in collaboration with area congregations. Boy Scouts - The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness. Heifer Project - Millions of people who were once hungry will be nourished by milk, eggs and fresh vegetables. Money sent to Heifer by Community UMC is used to buy livestock so that families around the world can learn how to enrich their communities. As people share the offspring of their animals throughout the communities around them - along with their knowledge, resources, and skill – an expanding network of hope, dignity and self-reliance is created. Appalachia Service Project (ASP) - ASP provides vital housing services to low-income families living in Central Appalachia as well as transformational life experiences to those we serve, volunteers offering their service, congregations involved with ASP, and entire communities.
