Feeding the Hungry
Beach Bags Program, College Park Elementary School - This is our outreach mission to children in Virginia Beach who do not have enough to eat – food insecurity. Our youth will be packing brown bags monthly that will include 10 items from the list posted on the mission bulletin board. Click the link below to find out more information about the program and to see a list of needed food items. We need individual cereal boxes, shelf stable milk, ravioli, and other main courses. Place the items on the designated cart in the tower area, or make a monetary donation. CUMC FOOD Pantry - Led by Faith Circle, this food ministry prepare bags of food that individuals and families may pick up monthly. Our congregations collects food on Stock the Food Pantry Sunday monthly, but other donations are always welcome.
Meals on Wheels - Provides home-delivered meals services to people in need. Includes history, membership benefits, training and conference schedule, and links to partners. http://www.mowaa.org.
Rise Against Hunger - Rise Against Hunger is an independent non-profit that provides meals for children outside of the United States. Rise Against Hunger packing events, where grain based and vitamin enriched meals are packed by churches or other organizations and sent to schools in the developing world. Meals are sent to schools, so that children and families are encourage to send children to school. Education is the fastest way out of poverty and hunger.
Work with the Homeless
Homeless Shelter - provides one week of shelter, breakfast and dinner annually in collaboration with area congregations.
Judeo-Christian Outreach Center - "To offer citizens of Hampton Roads, who so desire, the opportunity to improve their lives by providing them with shelter, food, clothing, and the opportunity to participate in substance abuse counseling, job training, and GED preparation, with the knowledge that someone cares about their well being." http://www.jcoc.org (click on Wish List to see how you may assist).
Boy Scouts - The Boy Scouts of America is one of the nation's largest and most prominent values-based youth development organizations. The BSA provides a program for young people that builds character, trains them in the responsibilities of participating citizenship, and develops personal fitness.
ForKids - Since 1988, ForKids has led the fight to end homelessness for families and their children in Hampton Roads. Our comprehensive services and residential programs help families overcome the barriers they face to self-sufficiency, and build a foundation of stability. www.HomesForKids.org.

GRACE Home, South Sudan

It is a UMC sponsored orphanage in Yei, South Sudan; its a Advance Special number is 3020787
It is a sponsored by the Holston conference and one website that has information about it is holston.org under Ministries, look for Hope for South Sudan, then Grace Home for Children. Another site is gracehomesouthsudan.blogspot.com
Currently, the children of Grace Home are in Uganda, a safer place than Yei. Ironically, the Grace Home campus now houses children from a similar orphanage who were evacuated from Kenyi, South Sudan.
